NMPA Key Laboratory for Research and Evaluation of Infectious Disease Diagnostic Technology and Fujian Institute for Food and Drug Quality Control Sign Cooperation Agreement to Advance Infectious Disease Detection and Evaluation

On the afternoon of August 28, 2024, a signing ceremony was held at Xiamen University’s Xiang’an campus for a cooperation agreement between the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) Key Laboratory for Research and Evaluation of Infectious Disease Diagnostic Technology (referred to as the “Key Laboratory”) and the Fujian Institute for Food and Drug Quality Control (FJIFDC). Attendees included Wang Yong, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of FJIFDC, Zheng Jingfeng, Member of the Party Committee and Vice President of FJIFDC, Xia Ningshao, Professor of Xiamen University and Director of the Key Laboratory, and Zhang Jun, Dean of the School of Public Health, Xiamen University.

The agreement marks the beginning of in-depth collaboration between the two institutions in areas such as the monitoring of gene mutations in infectious disease pathogens, the development and evaluation of reference standards, the submission of scientific research projects, and the training of personnel. Under to the agreement, the Key Laboratory will provide technical support to establish a gene mutation monitoring system for infectious diseases and develop reference and quality control materials; The FJIFDC will participate in data analysis and evaluation of mutant detection capabilities. Together, both parties aim to promote scientific regulation and technological advancements in the field of in vitro diagnostics.

During the ceremony, Zhang Jun and Wang Yong delivered remarks highlighting the importance of this collaboration. They emphasized its implications for the quality and safety supervision of infectious disease-related drugs, enhancing talent training and the overall development of the biopharmaceutical industry.

This partnership not only sets a new standard for cooperation between the Key Laboratory and local regulatory bodies regarding the detection and evaluation of infectious disease, but also strengthens the scientific framework of drug supervision in Fujian Province. It is a significant initiative for advancing Fujian's biomedical industry, improving emergency response capabilities for public health crises, and safeguarding public health.

Other attendees at the ceremony included Yan Huanghuang, Member of the Party Committee and Director of the Comprehensive Department at FJIFDC, Yang Zhiqiang, Director of the Business Department at FJIFDC; Xu Yanhui, Director of the Inactive Materials Department at FJIFDC; Yang Kunyu from the Xiang’an Biomedicine Laboratory; and faculty members Li Tingdong, Zhang Shiyin, Yang Dahou, Hou Wangheng, and Fang Mujin from the School of Public Health, Xiamen University.
