The life sciences and medical disciplines at Xiamen University are primarily distributed in the School of Life Sciences, School of Public Health, School of Pharmacy, School of Medicine and affiliated hospitals. Their construction and development are planned, coordinated and implemented by the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences (hereinafter referred to as "the Faculty"). Xiamen University's life sciences and medical disciplines possess national-level teaching and research platforms including the State Key Laboratory of Cellular Stress Biology, State Key Laboratory of Molecular Vaccinology and Molecular Diagnostics, National Engineering Research Center for Infectious Disease Diagnostics and Vaccines, National Institute for Data Science in Health and Medicine, and National Clinical Skills Comprehensive Training Center, encompassing 1 national "Double First-Class" construction discipline and 6 first-class majors. There are currently 10 affiliated hospitals, including 7 general hospitals and 3 specialized affiliated hospitals, with coordinated development between the university's main campus and affiliated hospitals in scientific research and education.

The Faculty has a nationally first-class, globally leading large-scale instrument sharing platform that is "the best, most comprehensive and most affordable". The Xiamen University Laboratory Animal Center covers a total area of 13,850 square meters with over 30,000 mouse cages, equipped with high-level experimental platforms including rodent breeding rooms, animal laboratories, quality control rooms, embryo purification rooms, cell culture rooms, and genetic modification mouse preparation facilities.

The four schools under the Faculty have a high-quality, innovative faculty team with scientists representing the forefront of world scientific research. The Faculty currently has 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, 2 members of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences Academic Advisory Committee, 7 Chang Jiang Scholars, 8 chief scientists of major scientific research programs and national key R&D projects, 7 national leading talents in scientific and technological innovation under the National High-Level Talent Special Support Program, and 15 recipients of the National "973 Program" and National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. There are 2 Innovative Research Groups of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and 2 Key Field Innovation Teams of the Ministry of Science and Technology. In the past five years, over 2,500 high-level papers have been published, including more than 300 in top international journals such as CNS and their sub-journals.
